Although the SolidWorks class (DAI 521) is only budgeted to be offered through regular university once a year in the spring, I've arranged to be able to offer the class through the College of Extended Learning (CEL) this fall. According to the online catalog, DAI 521 will be offered on Saturdays from 10:10am to 4:55pm. The first class is Saturday, Sept 1 (yes, this is labor day weekend; note that the Bay Bridge will be closed!) Of course, I would rather be able to offer the fall course through regular university, but going through CEL does bring the advantage of a smaller class size, which means more time for me to provide personal instruction. I also hope to have at least one TA next semester to assist students with their work. CEL classes do require an additional fee. Registration begins on July 30, 2007. Information on how to register is available at the CEL website. |

In an effort to improve the class for next semester, I've created a short online survey that I'd like each student to complete. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes: DAI 521 Spring 07 Wrap-up Survey Thanks! |

I've gone over this in class, but just to recap: - If you're going to participate in the student show, your project board must be turned in to the exhibit set-up crew in the Caesar Chavez Student Center (top floor) on the morning of Monday, May 14. Be sure to indicate that your submission is for DAI 521.
- If you are not planning to participate in the show, I'd still like you to produce a mounted board. You may want to go with the minimum size in this case (17"x11"), which you should be able to produce by tiling pages from an inkjet printer.
- All work is due by Saturday, May 19. You can turn it in on CD-ROM, or upload to the FTP server. Make sure that your assemblies open properly!
- We will do final presentations in class on May 19. Each student will do a 5-10 minute presentation of your final project. The presentation order will be randomly assigned. If you are not in class on time you may be marked down.

We will be modeling this "Efebino" children's chair (Stacy Dukes for Artemide, 1965) as a surfacing challenge during today's class. This is a realtively difficult model, so I'm not requiring you to complete it for homework. This product was used for one of the monthly modeling challenges on productdesignforums.com.
